When I first joined the youth blog as a monthly contributor, what surprised me more than anything was the shortness of the month – it felt like every time I hit the “send” button, I had to start working on the next one.
It has been a great pleasure to be part of youth.gov.hk for the past two years. For this final article, I thought I would talk about how the experience has transformed me.
Since my specialty was travel writing, I was hesitant to write about anything else in the beginning. But I was soon forced out of my literary comfort zone when I ran out of travel stories to share. My desperate attempt to find new topics eventually brought the dark side out of me. I started to write about how much I hated winter, and how much technology hated me. I grumbled often, and from what my ratings suggested, a very unlikeable one, too.
Fortunately, when spring arrived, my old cheery and loving self-returned. My ambition to make a positive contribution to society almost convinced me to write about the danger of drug abuse. But then I asked myself – would people take advice from a guy responsible for deaths of hundreds of flies?
Well, I guess my transformation had to do with the weather more than anything, but looking back, I believe that being a blogger has really inspired me to live more adventurously, and I hope that some of my stories have encouraged you to do the same. Thank you for your support throughout and if nothing else, I hope you will remember me as the guy who bought a Tamagotchi at the age of 23.
P.S. You can continue to follow me at www.geraldyeung.blogspot.com and www.geraldyeung.com .
